China to Achieve Grid Parity by 2018
Last week Applied Materials hosted solar cutomers at its Solar Technology Research & Development facility in Xi'an, China.
During the one day event, Applied Materials’ Dr. Charlie Gay sat down with China Daily to discuss the growing international solar-energy industry and what the next five years could potentially look like for China's energy market.
During his talk, Dr. Gay discussed how in the next few years China can expand its use of solar energy and reach grid parity by 2018 - two years ahead of the United States.

RE: 7 years from now
Joel - Excellent point. There is amazing potential for solar in Sout East Asia, but it will take government incentives to scale the technology. Having a volume of solar panels being produce does help the supply side of the supply and demand equation, but government spend has the unique ability scale demand. Thanks for the comment and we'll work on getting some perspective re: South East Asia in the future.
7 years from now
If china will achieve grid parity 2 years ahead of the US, can we expect the same with its Asian neighbors specifically South East Asia?
The Philippines for example has the manufacturing capacity and is currently producing a significant volume of solar panels but there is still a very small domestic market for this kind of solar systems.
