The third annual Applied Materials Solar Car Race is a friendly competition among employee teams assembling and racing miniature cars to raise money for local food bank at multiple sites across North America including Santa Clara, Calif., and Austin, Texas. The solar car race is one of many events taking place as part of Applied Materials’ North America Food Drive, where employees throughout the country join together to donate time, food and funds in order to make a difference in communities where they live and work. This year, the company goal is to deliver 2 million meals to families across the continent through a combination of employee donations, volunteerism, and matching funds from the Applied Materials Foundation, all together valued at $1 million.

This is a very creative way to help raise donations for charity. I applaud the company's efforts to help the community, while participating in a company bonding event.
