Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot Goes Green
As nearly 9,500 people prepare to gather in downtown San Jose, California on Thanksgiving morning to participate in the Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot, they can jog assured that they will be raising funds for local charities in a green way.
The annual Turkey Trot — a 5 and 10K walk/run community-building fundraising event — is committed to going green and reducing its environmental footprint. In this first year of a multi-year plan, we will be working to address issues of importance to Applied and to the community. Highlights of the effort include:
- offering free valet bike parking for people who ride to the Turkey Trot
- engaging sponsor Akeena Solar to provide renewable energy to the event
- collecting trash and recycling separately
- providing Trot participants with organic, biodegradable tee-shirts
- replacing pace cars with pace bikes
- ensuring online, paperless registration is available up to the day before the event
So, if you and your family plan to be in Silicon Valley for Thanksgiving, join us for the Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot on November 26. You will be supporting three local charities — Second Harvest Food Bank, The Housing Trust, and Children’s Health Initiative — and getting some good pre-Thanksgiving dinner exercise in a very green way.
