Victorious at Turkey Trot!

We arrived in the rain and the dark. We stretched with giant glittery turkeys. Some were fast and young. Others were not. We ran, we strolled, we hobbled. But, we prevailed!

On Thanksgiving morning, it was announced that Applied Materials has retained its title as the Fittest Firm at the annual Silicon Valley Turkey Trot! An amazing 514 employees and their family members registered to participate in the event … pushing our numbers way beyond any other company in our category.

With victory in the air, Applied representative, Mark Walker, accepted the highly coveted award from Silicon Valley Leadership Group’s Dennis Cima, and vowed to return next year!Read more

Applied Materials Named Silicon Valley’s Fittest Firm; $400,000-Plus Raised for Charities at Turkey Trot

Early on an icy cold Thanksgiving morning, nearly 15,000 runners and walkers took to the streets of downtown San Jose, California to participate in the Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot. They raised more than $425,000 for three local charities addressing critical community needs.

Visiting High School Students Help Fight Hunger

In Santa Clara County 1 in 4 people are at risk of experiencing hunger this year. Last month alone, Second Harvest Food Bank provided assistance to 212,000 people, many of whom were children. Their Family Harvest Program, which serves families with children, grew by 30% this past year. Because Hunger is a global concern, high school seniors who recently visited Applied Materials from Taiwan took time to visit Second Harvest and volunteer for half a day.Read more

The third annual Applied Materials Solar Car Race is a friendly competition among employee teams assembling and racing miniature cars to raise money for local food bank at multiple sites across North America including Santa Clara, Calif., and Austin, Texas. The solar car race is one of many events taking place as part of Applied Materials’ North America Food Drive, where employees throughout the country join together to donate time, food and funds in order to make a difference in communities where they live and work.Read more
