From economics and climate change to national security and global politics, energy is the driving force behind most everything on the planet. “Powering the Future,” a four-hour Discovery Channel TV series, premieres this weekend and closely examines where our energy could come from and how we are striving to create a clean, limitless, secure supply of energy.

It puts energy front and center, addressing the challenge from every angle and cutting through the noise by establishing a target: identifying a clean, limitless, secure energy supply and addressing how it could possibly be delivered.

Producers traveled to more than 30 different locations around the world to meet with the people at the heart of the issue -- from an offshore oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico to the oil sands of Canada; from Washington D.C. to Beijing – and to Santa Clara, where they interviewed Applied Chairman and CEO Mike Splinter and learned about our company’s clean energy capabilities.

Mike and Applied will be featured in the final hour of the four-hour series, entitled “Leading the Charge,” which will air this coming Sunday, July 18, from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. ET and PT (8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. CT). The segment featuring Applied will focus on U.S. energy policy and the choices for moving into a more rational and sustainable energy future. It will spotlight Applied's leadership in advocating that the U.S. embrace solar and the economic development and job creation potential that it offers.

Others participating in the series include James E. Rogers, chairman, president and CEO of Duke Energy and a member of Applied’s Board of Directors. The first three hour-long segments of the series begin Saturday, July 17, at 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, July 18, at 8:00 p.m.
