During Saturday night’s presentation of the Tech Awards in Santa Clara, California, I experienced a range of emotions as innovators who are using technology to benefit humanity were honored for their accomplishments.

The idea of using technology to benefit humanity brings to mind awe-inspiring, life-changing innovations of significant scale and impact, such as medical breakthroughs, advances in communications and high speed transportation.

But as the Tech Awards, presented by Applied Materials, demonstrate, sometimes clever ideas and relatively simple technology, elegant and effective in design, can help solve critical problems around the world.Read more

I am please to share that this year’s James C. Morgan Global Humanitarian Award, presented by Applied Materials, will recognize Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan for her leadership and efforts in protecting human rights around the world.

The Award, inspired by Applied Materials Chairman Emeritus, Jim Morgan, honors individuals whose broad vision and leadership are helping to address humanity's greatest challenges. The presentation will be made at the Tech Awards in Santa Clara, CA on November 6, 2010.
