Over the past 40 years, Applied Materials has been at the center of two of the biggest revolutions of our time – the computer revolution and communications revolution.  These technology waves have forever transformed the way we live our lives, the way we interact with one another and the way we understand the world around us.

Today we stand at the dawn of a new revolution – the energy and environment revolution.  Once again technology will lead this revolution.  And once again, Applied Materials plans to play a leading role in developing the technology that will help us create, conserve, store, and use clean energy.

I have every confidence that the world today has the ability to meet the technology demands of this new revolution, but that’s only half the battle.  Our clean technology future will require a broader conversation beyond the price and performance of energy solutions.  How can governments encourage the use of clean technologies?  What are the broader social implications of these changes? What does the evolving green workforce look like?  What are the economic development opportunities of clean technology?  What are the national security implications?  And, of course, what does this all mean to the environment?

Through this blog we hope to open up a global dialogue about emerging clean technologies, about the government programs that allow them to thrive and about the social changes they create.  We hope you will join us in discussing the ideas, actions and products that we believe will help shape a cleaner, brighter future.

New NanoTechnology Product for Applied Materials

May I propose a match? Applied Materials has the technology base and focus to bring to market high-tech products that are produced cleanly, increase energy efficiency, and simply make things better. I’m writing to offer to establish a handshake between Applied Materials and a company that has such a product. The product itself is carbon nanotubes (CNTs), produced by a novel process which is patented. This new process produces CNTs on a continuous basis, at a significantly lower cost, yields CNTs of much higher purity, solves the branching problem, is capable of controlling CNT conductivity (semiconductor or near superconductor) and offers one additional major benefit which is truly revolutionary and can be described later.

This company is preferably looking to partner with an existing company which has the expertise to bring these second generation CNTs to the market or, otherwise, to find an investor to fund the final development.

Kindly respond with the name and contact information for the appropriate person with whom I should deal regarding this matter.

Thanks and regards,

It won't be any time soon.

It won't be any time soon. The world is too use to using polluted products like gas. We will have a hard time weening ourselves off of these types of resources. Just like when you're sitting in your chilly house, and you crank the Thermostat up to 75 degrees. You're killing the environment. We first have to fix ourselves, before we can fix the environment.

The problem of climate change

The problem of climate change grows and I think that nowadays it occupies the minds of many scientists, politicians and laymen. I've seen a nice film An Inconvenient Truth. If you want you may download it at shared files SE http://filecraft.com . It is worth watching. I think that new energe technology would help to decline the harmful impact people do on the Planet. I hope that in ten years the majority of people will use clean technologies. This would be wonderful.

Viva La Revolucion!

You are right, this revolution will also be the first of its kind in that it will be the first revolution that exists to right many of the wrongs of a previous revolution - the Industrial Revolution.

Applied must attack its own products!

Good start ; perhaps can lead Applied into realm of great companies. What you need to do is to attack your own products with new disruptive technologies. Stay on top of the game by being number one and obsolete your own products yourselves rather than by some one else products! Clean teach is just another venue to achieve this!

Nice Blog!

Mike:

I totally agree with you on the new revolution — energy and environment. I would also add revolutions and advances being made in biotech, human genomics, proteomics, and medical devices — all enabled by relentless technological improvements in micro-processors, powerful embedded devices, and intelligent software.
